This can cause swelling of the tissues of the retina and problems with central vision, which is needed for everyday activities. Besides vision loss, RVO can be related to higher risk of cardiovascular issues such as heart attack or stroke. Treatment to reduce tissue swelling, if needed, and regular eye exams after an RVO has occurred are important for identifying and controlling complications that can contribute to permanent vision loss.
